Aedean Mitra (b.1999​​, Davao, Philippines) is a self-taught artist based in Manila, Philippines. He channels the shifting energies of his bipolar II disorder, along with his reflections on the human experience and our connection to the world, into abstract paintings. His works are physical manifestations of an inner life seeking refuge from turmoil through creative expression and self-awareness.

His condition has become both a burden and a creative force—deep depressive episodes have acquainted him with sorrow, while hypomanic states flood him with ideas. By surrendering to these fluctuations, he has learned to transform them into strength, producing paintings shaped by the stories and emotions he encounters each day.

The tension between his emotional states emerges through contrasting colors, mediums, and methods. Blending painting with poetry, collage, and assemblage, his practice moves beyond traditional boundaries.

Ultimately, his work invites viewers into a silent dialogue, encouraging them to recognize and reflect on their own inner worlds. In this shared, wordless exchange, the audience completes the artwork—this is where abstraction lives, and where he finds his purpose as an artist.
